Jessie Thanks for the response! I'm looking forward to reading The Book of Deacon next. My other question was if there is truth to how little pain there is in cutting off a limb. Was that something you or someone close to you experienced in real life? I have never lost a limb, so that's why I was wondering about this. I've always imagined it's excruciatingly painful.

Joseph Lallo I read a few anecdotes from those who lost limbs. It was common for people to, in the moment, claim they weren't even aware of the lost. It as described as "a sharp tug" or "a brief sting" but intense pain following minutes or hours later. The worst I've had happen to me was a wisdom tooth removal, so I have no first hand experience.
