David Absalom I believe he was the best short story writer of the 20th Century. Although he is my favorite novelist, i agree that he was better at short stories. I do think The Sun Also Rises is the best novel of the 20th Century.

STEPHEN MACPHERSON That's a fair opinion- his short stories are what students who are reading him for the first time should read.

Amanda I studied his short fiction in grad school and thought that terse "American Plain Style" was great for what he was trying to do in the short works. But reading that in novel form was so tedious. I don't think it quite works for a longer form.
