Gerard Linehan Harry Blamires or Declan Kiberd (among others) show how and why to enjoy Ulysses....

Mark André i completely agree: Ulysses should be outlawed from the university.

Linda C Personally, I don't believe that anyone adores this book. They're just afraid to look uneducated by admitting that this is a pile of overwrought drivel so they claim that it's a great novel that is plebians just don't understand. It's not a great novel. It really is a pile of drivel.

Mark André Dear Linda C., I like your hydrangea avatar! Interestingly there is a professor of English literature, some where in the mid-west, who wrote a scholarly book with exactly your same premise: that Ulysses is actually just poop, and that people who say they like it are just lying to protect themselves from embarrassment, or they are trying to feel superior to their neighbors. Of course this idea has no truth value at all. Ulysses is a love story, magically told. Those of us who read it again and again, and there are lots of us all over the world do it just for fun!

Frank D You have to have an unrelenting drive to get to the bottom of all the blind alleys and seemingly meaningless puzzles. Stephen the shlump goes on to become Joyce the Magnificent when he leaves Bloom's basement.

Kevin Bradshaw Maybe the so called parallels are illusory? Name some.
