F.G. Cottam THOLS is quite autobiographical. The Painter Peter Doig (Greg Foyle in the novel) suggested I write a book about 'us' in the 1980s. I basically gave Paul Seaton my idyllic early 80s life and then took it away from him.

Jan Re: Beckoning Fair One, Oliver Onions, et al: may I recommend what I believe to be the best compendium of great authors/stories of tales of the paranormal: Great Tales of Terror and the Supernatural eds Phyllis Cerf Wagner/Robert Wise pub Modern Library. Most of the stories are older but include the most classic, everyone from H P Lovecraft to E F Benson to Algernon Blackwood to Bulwer-Lytton to - yes - Onions. Just a brilliant collection.

Chris That explains why the boxing scenes were so well done in The Lazarus Prophecy. Great book.
