All the movies made from King's novels do disservice to his work. The only film treatment worth watching was The Stand - and that, only because it was a mini-series. The extended film time allowed them to include more of the back story than a theater length movie can.
From an unbiased opinion by watching the film and reading the book I can say both are good pieces of fiction and art. I find the film better due to the fact it was very unexplained and because danny was not at all the center piece of the story and after the movie ended I felt like there were a few things that could have been better and added that were not but I felt it was a perfectly well made film could have been alot more graphic for my tastes more violence and gore towards the end might have made me watch it every night before bed but nightmare on elm street does this for me pretty well... There is a prequel to the shining coming to film which has nothing to do with doctor sleep fortunately and unfortunately for others ! I find doctor sleep story completely unrelating to the shining except for the fact it has danny in it and we get more foresight which was my least favorite thing about danny I found the foresight to be soo stupid..... so I just kinda block it out of my head and remind myself steven king was on crack and didnt know jack fucking shit when making dannys character so I forgive him and put it in the back of my mind where you put all things you wanna forget and I forget the facy foresight was even apart of the film and books because I completely neglect to acknowledge its very existence so I just imagaine danny is somewhat a special indvidual and talks to himself like a deet a dee and Im content with the story! Doctor sleep can be an entirely different world and story because its has nothing to do with the hotel really and or jack torrance who was the character I felt the most connected with. That and the hotel if you could classify the hotel as a character which it kinda was... hint hint..... but sadly I feel the prequel film will lack luster and rich depth as the original. But I hope im wrong and im slapped in the face with awesome! I think both adaptations were brilliant for the shining I do not however have much hope for anything else related after the story of Doctor sleep I can safely say Ill forget that book and all its entails it has no meaning or relation to my crowned jewel the shining so anything steven king and I disagreed on does not exist in my mind I bet I could make doctor sleep and people would be frightened after reading the book and seeing my ideas they would be scared to sleep or completely appalled by my ideas and thats another reason I found doctor sleep to be sooo.... not interesting was because it had very little to do with horror it was more foresight or.. whatever you wanna call it it was not horror it was like a childrens ghost story.... not a bad one.. but not.. a good follow up to the shining which was terrifyingly brilliant in all aspects compard to doctors sleeps plot line... I find myself hating doctor sleep because it had soo much potential and failed to realized it and became a somewhat cheesy and predictable story... crime case files are scarier than doctor sleep..... and more interesting! Stanley Kubrick was the genius in my book and the film re wrote the book for me and now I can re read it changing the ending to my benefit because I like the gritty the bloody the insane.... and scary is scary and thats what I like horror! The film brings more mystery to the story then the book ever could because explaining everything just sucks..... dont ever do that then we never wanna know more... the movie left you wanting soo much more... thats why its my favorite adaption and version.
That's Shelley Duvall and no, she is not a bad actress. She's been in many classics, one of which was beside Robin Williams.
Are you talking about the live action Popeye? Not a great example. I also thought she was awful in the Shining. Her portrayal almost makes the movie unwatchable for me.
