14th Century? I'm sure that whatever time period you choose to write about will be brought to life and it is through first reading 'When Christ and his saints slept' a few years ago that I grew to love historical fiction so ill always be grateful to you for that. As it is, my knowledge of 14th century is pretty superficial based as it is upon the hundred years war, would you choose to set your novel around this time period? Ive always been fascinated by Edward the Black Prince as i feel that he is a character begging to be brought to life based on the rather limited knowledge we have of him- not even knowing for definite how he came by his nickname. Again I must thank you for your writing which has inspired me (and will continue to do so) to read more historical fiction
That is next on the agenda, Octavista--the 14th century. After I do another mystery. The Black Prince is an interesting historical figure; it is believed that the name referred to his armor, but I am not sure if he was every called that during his own lifetime. Thank you so much for letting me know I helped spark your interest in historical fiction!
I also suggested Sharon consider one more Plantagenet book - about the Black Prince. I think he's been painted incorrectly by historians, similar in some ways to Richard III. Edward is either likened to the ultimate hero or a complete failure since England lost Gascony as part of their lands and he has been held responsible for that debacle.
I have thought about writing his story, Rosemary. I am not yet sure where my fourteenth century road will take me.
