Yes, it is a bit confusing, but I like to read the words, even though the story connects slowly, because if we just look for the story we will miss out on the words, and that would be sad :(
A friend read this book last year and she's really faraway so she mailed it to me saying she had to share her 'discovery' with me. It's nice to know there is someone else reading the book along with me, haha :)
I'm at 25% and I'm just like OMG this book is sooooo boring! And I can read just about anything. I'm gonna stick it out for the ending but as of right now I'm not that impressed with his dirty underwear lol.
I'm really sad you find it that boring. "And yet", to try to persuade you would mean not to convince you!
If I had to really try to salvage this lovely story, I'd say only this much: You must put the book down and let it go. Read something that would interest you instead, and forget the book. Cheers!
Focus on the individual threads of language and trust that the whole thing will become a tapestry. I spent the entire day in bed reading it, convinced I had the flu but miraculously still able to read (as usually when I'm sick I'm too miserable to do anything). Today, after finishing it last night, I feel fine. I've underlined countless passages to go back to and it jump-started my own autobiographical writing process again, so despite a little disappointment with one detail towards the end, I love this book.
