I can't remember the title, but Watchers from the 80's about that very special golden retriever named Travis was my favorite ever. I also loved Phantoms - he was able to create such a sense of dread combined with claustrophobia that I remember details about it after 25 years. Ben Affleck and Peter O'Toole made a half-way good film adaptation of it.
I just finished Song of David and loved it! The characters are lovable but flawed, and I really enjoyed the little sneak peaks into Moses & Georgia's lives that we got here and there. Just lovely.
