I think Barbara knowing him since he was a kid meant that she knew what kind of guy he was. If he did that to Louise, chances are that kind of behavior is not out of the norm for him.
But framing him for kidnapping/murder? wow. So did Barbara cut herself on purpose on the survival trip to get the bloody clothes?
He was cheating on Louisa with Annabel and he was so sketchy by never wanting to bring Louisa to be around his family.
All true, & he may have been a creep, but that does not justify this kind of false accusation done knowingly.
I mean, they explain in the book why they set him up. He's an abusive, violent asshole and his family helped cover up Bear's death while also being generally awful.
There was no body so Jean Paul wouldn't have been tried, especially with all his wealthy connections. I was happy to see him shed a few tears if only for himself.
