No, it's not a leap at all. Rose had the coat, which Frances knew. The gun was in the coat pocket. The presence of the coat (and gun) in the trunk with the body is proof that Rose killed her, and Frances realized that, especially since she had a way (Bill) to get there - and Frances saw BIll driving in that direction that day.
