Constantine Followed up on that recommendation. Can't say that have enjoyed it and would recommend. Tartt's Goldfinch on the other hand I did enjoy, but with not relation to the Magus.

Mary I can see why you suggested "A Secret History", Felicia M.

Maia Corbin I just started A Secret History on this recommendation and I love it. There's a similar wit and erudition to the writing style, which is what I loved The Magus for.

Riff Going to A Secret History from Fowles was a huge disappointment. I don't think it's a great book at all - but as Constantine said, Goldfinch is rather good. Still not in the realm of Fowles, but good.

Saruman of Many Colours I was going to recommend this too

Bhole This first thing came to my mind too. I reread both the books.

IvanOpinion I kept being reminded of the mood and themes of Secret History as I read The Magus. I would rank them equally as masterpieces.

Marcus Marsden Secret History is good, but it cannot compare to The Magus. A world away.
