Luke Johnson Do you plan to do more research on gender-neutral pronouns, or to include them in your later novels?

(also, I feel it necessary to point out that he/him/his and she/her/hers are used by people who identify as neither male nor female: while they carry societal connotations, they're used by non-binary people, and as such can be gender-neutral.

Ann Leckie I am definitely pondering the possibility of using gender-neutral pronouns in the future.

And it's true that some individuals who don't identify as either (or exclusively) male or female do use he or she. Still, in a text like AJ, or tLHoD, the overall impression definitely isn't one of neutrality, precisely because of the societal connotations.

Your point is still a good one, though.
