I agree with your answer, Tracy. I have loved this series by Tana French, but The Secret Place has been a disappointment. It's the worst book in the series. I hope she goes back to writing as well as she did with the previous books. Thanks for your answer
I couldn't agree more--suddenly developing telekinesis, when it had absolutely nothing to do with anything else in the book, just came out distracting and plain silly.
Yes, I agree with you in both respects, Tracy - the magic adds nothing and the book is so long you forget who knew what when. Pity as very enjoyable to start with.
The paranormal element never gets resolved or plays a part in any of her novels, it's just there to keep us reading. Frankly, I'm glad it wasn't marketed like that, as they did with In The Woods, because then I was disappointed. I agree with you 100% on the editing, it did feel too long. But I actually liked this pair of detectives.
