I did finish it for the same reason you did and my opinion was the same as yours. I wonder if I had listened to it (Meryl Streep) if I would have felt differently about it. People seemed to really like her interpretation/narration.
Oh- I did listen to it. The lack of story was the problem for me. And honestly I never felt any emotional connection or passion between characters so I just didn’t care. Meryl Streep couldn’t rescue it for me.
Meryl Streep tried but did not enhance the book at all.
