Thank you both. WIshlisted!
Wow... I keep looking at those Kate Eliott books and wondering. That sounds cool! Enjoying The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms.
I love Griffin's books, and I am so glad I have recently found your works as well. The Fifth Season is amazing and utterly blew my mind. Now I have two more authors to check out. Thank you!
I'm reading your third book in the Inheritance trilogy and the more I read the more I realize how brilliant it all is. Which makes me really jealous and angry and simultaneously happy. That you just did it all, everything I would want to do if I could write that well. Subtly and nuance mixed with like pure imagination, familiarity, and archetypes, but written in a narrative which I think is like a good balance between heady and easy to take in.
To a certain extent I know that these archetypes are in all cultures, and to a certain extent we are all singing that same song, but the duality that is present in like Sieh is amazing/rare. Time travel really is like the most ultimate trick and the real nature of a trickster and comedy is the fear of sorrow and darkness, but is at the same time like embracing that sorrow and darkness.
I am reminded of this game I used to play called Quest for Glory Trial by Fire produced by Sierra and written and directed by Lori and Corey Cole. The owner of the magic shop's name was "Keapon Laffin", and he was this little man who rode around on a cloud and cracked one liners or super corny jokes which only he would laugh at. I thought of him and this game as well when I read the first book when Yeine Darre goes to Sky and finds the shadows stairs or in between the walls.
In the game you are in this labyrinthine city called Shapeir which (Spoiler alert) at the northern most hallway had a secret door hidden by magic which lead to the "Wizard's Institute of Technocery" or WIT ;0...
Anyways I also like that this 3rd book is in 1st person...
To stay in tune with the thread my favorite recent fantasy books are the R Scott Bakker Aspect Emperor Series and the second trilogy called "The Second Apocalypse" which is like- Bazzaro Vulcan Jesus saves/destroys the world while once teacher and follower Drusas Achamian sees him for what he really is- sociopath, and hates that he loves him anyways. But I would not suggest that anyone read RSB's thrillers unless you want to go insane O_O....
And another series that I liked was the Abhorsen Books by Garth Nix. It's like fantasy horror... seems to be sort of an allegory about sleeping. But it really is brilliant the way it sort of hits on the nature of consciousness... that is what I like about NK Jemisin's books as well- they seem to be telling another story underneath about the human psyche.
Looking forward to your new books! have a nice day :0
