I bet you would do it again in a heartbeat.
For which book? You know, there are parts of that area where compasses don't work because of the magnetic fields created by the lava. I grew up there and wouldn't hike it even mildly in shape!
I went on a hike there back in the early 80's, wonderful place, I was stationed at Schofield Barracks, so we ended up at the Big Island about 4 times a year for exercises, during down time we go off to some of the hot spots and do some hiking. Great place.
