I really wish publishers would just release all of the books quickly once you are done! Hopefully not one a year... Really looking forward to these books!
Kevin and Dominic - I know hear you...but there is another side of the coin to consider. Orbit actually did what you suggest (release all the books at once) and it is very hard on everyone involved: Cover designers, editors, myself to review the edits, the marketing people. And it takes up a lot of "slots" for other author's books as the publisher has a maximum capacity.
But, to me the biggest problem is one of a large delay between one set of books and the next. The Riyria Revelations took me 9 years to write and then they all came out at once. If they were released once a year (or even once every six months) then I would have had 3 - 6 years to be writing The First Empire and as the first series "finished it's release" the net set of books would be ready to come out. With this "all at once" release it means that there are years when I have "nothing new" and it's easy for readers to forget about me and the books.
While we are still working on release dates, I suspect Del Rey will space the books out (rather than lumping as Orbit did) and that will give me some time to get the next series written while they are being rolled out so I can have a "consistent" release schedule rather than one that is marked by huge periods of time with nothing new to read.
I can promise you I won't forget, but I totally understand your point. I also like knowing that there is something to look forward to. It's like Christmas :)
Indeed. Anticipation is a cool thing. Knowing that all the books are done certainly decreases the chance of cancellation, and the readers know the release WILL occur.
Like the Silmarillion, except that it will be written backward. (That will make more sense in about five years.)
I'm confused, stories ALWAYS resemble exactly what happened! History is never re-written. All we have to do is look at the story of Hannibal. I mean, only a military GENIUS would take elephants through the mountains!! :D
Super excited for this series. I'm hoping that there's more of Yolric and his motives/involvement. I've been intrigued ever since his dream scene with Arista where he talks about the setting up the "wobble". It seemed that he talked as if he were more than a mere man and would be around to watch the results of the empire crashing down.
