I understand the question on another way, as it happens for me. Except I've been reading a saga for a long time, I don't really like to get into 6-8 books that are one continuous story.
Sometimes reading is a terrible thing. You find a book, it looks interesting and you want to read it, and then you see its part of a 20 book series that you are going to spend half a year reading. Kills the exitement right there.
