Jean Lovely thoughts. Thank you..

Judith Yes, but they aren't both "at fault" for anything! They're each being who they are, the sum total of all they've been through, & I don't see that as "fault" on either side. (But I still say Sam never betrayed Sadie.)

Phyllis Meredith True, I guess I am speaking from the experience of looking back at how I struggled to communicate and compromise at 20 or 25 and how far I have come. But they both were just being who they were at the time. They both showed so much growth throughout the story arc, I am really impressed with their character growth!

Judith Maybe, but they both struggled with depression, at different times & for different reasons, & the story ends before we know if they've grown enough to overcome that & reconnect.

Valentina S @Phyllis Meredith you mentioned ‘no one knew the real basis of Sadie’s deep depression until the end of the book’ - what was it? Did I miss something except the stuff with Dov and then Marx’s death?

Judith Sadie has self-esteem issues that are apparent looking back at her early days with Sam, her love life, & her creative resentments. She abandoned Sam more than once, & was clinically depressed after Dov & Marx both. All of this was apparent by the end of the book.
