Sara Lemmie's Japanese is not fluent. The book is littered with Japanese mistakes, as many of us who do speak and read Japanese have noted. But what a nice idea that visiting one's godmother could magically make one fluent in a language! If you're interested in the American military's impact in Japan or Okinawa, I recommend Akemi Johnson's book called Night in the American Village: Women in the Shadow of American Military Bases in Okinawa. If the life of Black people in Japan interests you, try googling Baye McNeil. I'm sure Lemmie is a nice person, but this book is simply a mess.
