Nicholas Smith David...glad you clarified. If you haven't read any of Harris' books (which is likely if you have the idea that he's an 'American who has little idea of the outside world'), than this might be a good place to start.

I would also suggest reading The End of Faith, which has gathered much more critical acclaim.

Akiva It's common for people in America to refer to themselves as "spiritual, but not religious" -- perhaps Harris didn't want to presume that this phrase is used by millions of people outside the USA...?

Jason Block I would blame the publishers for that. It's possible Harris wrote that, but he's talked about publishers writing his subtitles in the past, for example, so I would not be surprised if they were involved in that description as well.
