Because there is certain content people like to avoid because it takes away the enjoyment of the book for them. Or some people have trauma and if a book has explicit content it can bring up those memories again. So knowing beforehand helps us avoid wasting money and time on a book we can’t finish. Hope this answers your question :)
Also some people like myself work at a high school and have students request books and we have to make sure they are appropriate before we purchase for them.
