Alice's life should have been made a matter of public record long ago if she was a real person, the way the media has been in Western culture for the past 50 years. Anybody know Alice's real or full name? Do we know when and where she was born, where she lived and went to school, which university her father taught at, when she died? Have her parents and sister ever been interviewed? No to all these questions, because she never existed. That's one of the many things that should tell people something about this so-called diary.

Aside from the factors you mentioned, it is ludicrously obvious that the person who wrote this had no experience with and an extremely limited knowledge of psychoactive drug use.
But even without the background to recognize that, a discerning reader can easily see this for the drug-scare propaganda piece that it is.
I remember when this was an assigned reading in my middle school class it was a minority of the students that actually fell for the "non-fiction" premise. It is "presented" as the real diary of a real girl but I seriously doubt that most people consider it as such.
