I love the idea of a Gantt chart - one "master" timeline with each character's path running through it. Maybe a special color or shape whenever characters interact. Being light years apart, it seems each character would have their own "clock" as well. That could get interesting (and complicated) fast. But better to chart it and be sure than wing it and get it wrong. I can see where this would be especially helpful when writing a series. Cool idea :-)
