Jacqui These were my thoughts exactly but it seems almost everyone thinks she chose Jonas

Denise (view spoiler)

Deena I just reread the final pages of the book, starting with their return to the cabins from the bbq. I still think she had decided to stay with Peter but then her mom gave her permission to ‘take the swim’. Maybe that was all she needed to waiver. Then when she asked Peter to join her for her early morning swim, his saying no pushed her into choosing Jonas. I guess we’ll never know for sure!

Mary Ann Agree with you completely!

Mary Dee I totally agree.

Tammy I agree with you, I think she decided to stay with Peter.

Juliana I think (hope) so too!!!

message 8: by Katie (new)

Katie Mannella She said at the end when she asked Peter to swim with her "come with me. End this" ... And he didn't then she took the ring off. I think she chose Jonas.

Shari that's what I thought too

Fran Grafman When she leaves the cabin, it said that she saw him standing across the pond in his blue shirt. The ending left me flat. Not sure who she chose.

Kelly Robinson That ending was terrible, so unclear. I hate reading 400 pages to just be left flat on my face like this. What a shame.

Daniela Gosselink I listened to the book and Nan McNamara does an incredible job. I felt her pain, her indecisions. I believe that the author wanted the reader to choose the path for her. Root for one, or the other. I personally want Elle to remain with her husband and children. But reading other comments now I am not sure, Perhaps I should not have read them and form my own impression. Now I am unsure. Either way this book was exceptionally well narrated.

Patricia Ison Yeah but in the ending she sees Jonas across the lake. Elle takes off her wedding ring and presses it into her life line. This seems to indicate she left Peter to go to Jonas.

message 14: by Melanie (new)

Melanie I agree with you. i thought it was pretty clear she chose Peter and was shocked to see all these Goodreads comments about her choosing Jonas or committing suicide!
