Thank you! I guess if you have never experienced a situation like this, or have been witness to a love one going through it, it is easy to finish the book this way and simply let it go.
I'm 35 in September and was growing up in this window in time.
Appearances were everything for my family. I'm sure we've all been at that point where our mother has transformed into a demon and is about to devour us because we wouldn't stop fighting with our siblings or some other horrible transgression, only for the phone to ring and her cheerfully picking it up and start talking like she's just finished a chapter in a pleasant book.
When Grace's husband started up about arguing with him in public, it gave me a flashback to not-so-good times. I knew exactly what was happening and I was too dense to understand that Patty was playing dumb about the fine china.
I got what I wanted out of the end, "I want a divorce." was a sigh of relief for me.
