After finishing the book it is clear this was just an editing error but when I read it in the first half of the book I was sure it was a breadcrumb dropped by the author and I kept trying to fit it into the story -- maybe Pete isn't real and is actually a ghost??!! Maybe Femi is a ghost and/or a figment of Duncan's imagination??!! Maybe Duncan is intentionally lying and we are going to understand why later on??!! I kept trying to fit the inconsistency into the story that would make it make sense and this proved distracting enough that it really took away from the story for me and ruined what otherwise would have been a really good read for me.
Good catch! I thought I’d read Pete and Duncan pulled her out, but caught that later Duncan said Femi. Odd to leave that error in and leave Pete’s whereabouts at the end dangling.
