R Here’s my big question after finishing the story.. what was the significance of the caller? And the messages? I still don’t get that.

Maggie_qwerty Right? It seems the caller are the signals frm her unconscious mind, trying to signal that she needs to face something... Like healthy people get dreams about their problems, sometimes? Before I say anything else - I really did enjoy the book, but..... Yes, well, but. The book seemed lazy. All this delightful sparkling confetti of mystery tossed at us - and for no reason, but to confuse, or give a signal. And he's not taking the responsibility for any of it. I mean - we know the woman is dealing with split personality, since she says the phones are from herself. And then the author doesn't bother to explain ANYTHING. What's the significance or history behind the man (supposedly masturbating?) outside her childhood window? How did the phone calls work? What's with the photograph of the girl in the parents' house? If it was Jake - janitor all the time, why a girl on the photo? What's the story behind the little brother? Did he die? In what circumstances? And what's with the basement, hallo? Who used to hide in it? For fow long? From whom? Who used to paint? Are we just to choose one character and make up our own story as we please? All in all - Iain Reid has a potential, but this book seems very immature and disrespectful for the reader. I'm reading his FOE now, hope it to be better.

Jill Diamond My big question is what was the significance of calling her Steph? What was the significance of the dad telling her she was trembling?
