I think you’ll find that not actually a lot of people want an asshole as a partner in real life. I don’t understand why so many people suggest that readers get their relationship advice from books. I imagine there are some instances where young readers make poor connections but mostly abusive relationships stem from much different avenues of a person’s life than the literature they are reading. And unfortunately, it isn’t the author’s responsibility to create happy and wholesome relationships. They create the ones they want but it’s up to the reader to decide for themselves how they feel. A lot of us can see what makes Cardan attractive as a fictional character but would have pummeled him in real life. You’d potentially change your tune if you finish the series because after The Cruel Prince, the shenanigans stop and eventually there is story on his poor childhood and apologies are made. You may not love him but you may understand him better than you do now.
Alright, I guess I'll try to finish the series again. But only because you said Cardan would get better.
I don't know why people would get their relationship advice from books either, but the target audience of this series is 14-18. And teenagers are very impressionable; trust me, I am one, and a lot of my friends 'imprint' on books more than what I would consider healthy.

I'm not worried about you, you seem to be fairly logical. I'm worried about people who have been Cardan-lovers since book one who think abuse is sexy IRL. Trust me, it's not good, and I want to know why people want an asshole to love them, even in real life.
I tried The Wicked King and had to put it down. But whatever. As you said, we all have our opinions.
