ancientreader I read this book in its first edition and apparently the bestiality has been scrubbed from my brain! I will say in the book's defense that at a time when lesbian* culture wasn't particularly pro-sex, it offered me an alternative view that I urgently needed. (And lesbian-with-an-asterisk bc that was the only identity I thought was available to me mid-1970s, so imagine my relief when "pan" turned up.)

I do really appreciate the sex-positive aspects of it! There are still not enough books that are willing to say that type of thing, especially in a context of "also you need to be safe." The rest of it was historically interesting. (Also in this version they say "you can put up a website with naked pictures of yourself if you want!" and I shouted "Nooooo." People's relationship with technology in 2003 was something else.

I once got in a social media fight with someone who *insisted* that there was no significant life blowback from posting images of one's sex life online. She was 100% clear that the only reason I favored caution was that I am Old and Did Not Understand the Ways of Youth; her naivete astonishes me even more in retrospect.

The face I'm making.
