Thank you for your kind comment, Caroline :) This book surprised me in the best way possible.

The book is intended for readers from middle grade and up. I have to say there are some traumatic events in the story that could upset children. You also need to have some knowledge about orcas from the Pacific Northwest and their behavior to fully grasp everything that occurs in the book, which most children don't have. I personally think the book is geared more towards young adults and adults. Thank you, La La :)

Fran Perse..."Reading from the perspective of an orca was a unique experience for me. There’s a reason whу it’s said that orcas are our counterparts: theу have complex brains, intelligence, and strong familial bonds." Humans might learn a thing or two about cooperation from orcas...just sayin'. Magnificent, fact filled review as always!😘🌷

Anna All l know about orcas, dolphins, and sharks, l learned from your reviews! Thank you for that!
I would always say that when a book manages to make you cry, it's a good one!
I think Disney should turn Vega and Deneb's story into a children's cartoon movie.
Another fantastic and educational review, Persephone 🥰

Nancy Another fascinating review, PP! They are such bright and remarkable creatures. I know if I read this, I’ll be crying too.

message 21: by Gabriela (new)

Gabriela Thinking of these beautiful mammals being so critically endangered definitely hurts my heart too 🥺 I didn’t realize there were different kinds of Orcas and that they face different challenges. I always love the idea of being inside an animal’s head. A lovely review Persephone! I’m happy this touched you and thank you for teaching us more about orcas 💖💕

message 23: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Yay! More orcas! This sounds like a lovely story, but there's no way I'm ever going to read it because I cannot handle sad animal stories, lol. I'm always so heartbroken when I think about the orcas kept in captivity. I hope that Vega and Deneb get a happy ending, at least. 🩶 Fantastic review, Persephone! 💕

Humans and orcas are very similar. Both are highly intelligent, both have strong family bonds, and both are apex predators - humans on land, and orcas in the ocean. Thank you, Fran :)

Indeed. Thank you, Barbara :)

Thank you so much for your compliment, Anna. I really appreciate it. I love sharing my knowledge with others. Cetaceans are incredible species. I agree, this book would make for a great animated movie. It's sad and traumatic, but also inspiring and amusing. I would love to watch the story on the big screen.

Oh, I think you would be touched by the story. It's incredibly moving. Thank you, Nancy :)

There are ten different orca ecotypes. Each has a specific diet, behavior, vocalization, and social structure. Orcas are incredible. Truly the most complex and fascinating sea creature. Thank you for your comment, Gabriela :)

I'm sure some of my friends are secretly thinking 'here she goes again, another review about freaking orcas.' lol The heart wants what it wants. There is sort of a happy ending. Vega and Deneb survive and return home but are only reunited with half of their family. So the ending is more bittersweet than happy. We don't find out whether or not they manage to find the rest of their family members, and I'm kind of ok with that. I like that the book isn't a typical Disneyesque HEA. Thank you, Jamie :)
