me too! i really don't know what's going on but these books are not booker prize worthy

the ones i've read are either aggressively average or just bad
I'm feeling the same way about this year's longlist. The four I've read so far have been very underwhelming.
My initial reaction was the same - but once I realised what the point of all those frustratingly meaningless conversations was (ie István‘s lack of emotional intelligence), I really enjoyed it. I don’t know whether listening to the audiobook, rather than reading the book, had any effect on my reaction,
This is the first of this year’s Booker list I have read so far, so can’t comment on the long list as a whole.
I'm relieved someone else feels the same way about this year's list. 3 of the shortlist and 1 longlister read, and all, at best, disappointing. This was the worst - couldn't finish it.

i understand the point & what the book is trying to say, but if you're going to write a book about a passive character it still needs to be engaging
mmmm, i get what you mean, it's funny but still a weird comparison, because chatgpt would never ever write it that simplistic, would rather use complicated phrases
