I think you mentioned this book when we met? I love Monte Cristo too."
"Putin on a great show" ...you clever punster you! : D
Yes, this is the book that I tentatively mentioned when we met for lunch recently.
Thanks for the comment, Apatt!
Hurray! Super happy to see those five shining stars from you, Kevin. I enjoy reading your delightful review and wish I could see you dance the Kalinka!

Thank you, Laysee!
Oh, my Kalinka draws attention wherever I go! ; )
Terrific review, Kevin. However, I'm a lover of pity prose and still absolutely loved this book. When it's done with this kind of skill (not overwriting), lyrical effusiveness is glorious.
Great review Kevin! Glad you liked this one. But really, how could you not. The Count is quite the character.

And on the other side of the coin, Betsy, I only enjoy lean prose if it's done with a high level of skill (à la Steinbeck).
Thank you for your kind comment!

Thanks, Maureen. Like it I did!

I agree, the Count is a real charmer. So charismatic.

Thanks, Candi. Loved your review too!
Jennifer wrote: "Wonderful review, Kevin! :)"
Thanks, Jennifer! The charming main character is pivotal to the success of this novel. It was such a pleasure to make his acquaintance.
Wonderful review, Kevin! Made me laugh! Just love your enthusiasm. Makes me want to get to it sooner than planned. I feel the same way about sparse prose. I like lots of words, unless there are tangents or subjects I'm not interested in.

Thanks, Debbie! I'm definitely not a fan of sparse prose. Writing should beguile us, not just take us from A to B to Zzzzz
Emma wrote: "Great review! I adored this book one of my favourites for the year."
Thanks, Emma!
One of my favourites too. I've had three front runners in a row, all selected by way of friends' reviews.
I can't remember when I last read three great books, one after another! This won't last!
Wonderful review Kevin! Just goes to show when most of Goodreads friends like a book, just read it!😉😀
Karen wrote: "Wonderful review Kevin! Just goes to show when most of Goodreads friends like a book, just read it!😉😀"
Well, that ploy has certainly worked for my last three reads!
Thanks, Karen, always good to hear from you!
Delightful, a gracious and charming review, Kevin! I'm not at all surprised that you enjoyed this, but beyond pleased to see it, just the same!
Wonderful review, Kevin! I can't wait to fall in love with this book . . . and maybe the Count, too! ;)
You also can't swing a Cossack without hitting upon another gushing review of this book, yet you with the gift of gab found a few new things to say in such an entertaining way. Brilliant and mirthful, I think the Count would approve.
Splendid review. Ha, The Count of Monte Cristo was one of my childhood/teenage years favourite books (had a thing for Dumas' books).
Kevin, your review left me thinking this was either a very large room, or a very, very small Cossack. Now, I can't get that image out of my mind, so this has become another must-read. Thanks for yet-another smile-bringing review!
Cheri wrote: "Delightful, a gracious and charming review, Kevin! I'm not at all surprised that you enjoyed this, but beyond pleased to see it, just the same!"
Thanks, Cheri! Loved your use of the word 'sublime' to describe this read.
Also, in the comments underneath your review, I did laugh when Bianca wrote, "Hands off, Karen, he's mine!"
Brilliant! : D
Paromjit wrote: "Excellent review Kevin...you are reading some great books recently. :)"
Thanks, Paromjit! The credit for my recent book choices must go to friends' commendatory reviews on Goodreads.
Himself, The Heart's Invisible Furies, and this one have all been superb. It's rare to enjoy such a good run.
Jaline wrote: "Wonderful review, Kevin! I can't wait to fall in love with this book . . . and maybe the Count, too! ;)"

I have no doubt that you will fall in love with the Count. It's almost impossible not to!

Me too! Loved The Count of Monte Cristo when I read it as a young lad. Just checked out your other book choices, you have great taste, Bianca!

Lovely to see the introduction of a profile pic. I very much approve!
