Richard Alex Jenkins Hello.

This is a buddy read for
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
by Ray Bradbury.

There's no specific timeline and will run for a few weeks.

I'll be jumping in after I finish both The Martian Chronicles and Cujo, I'm around 85% on each.

I'm also tackling Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, but that's not appropriate for this group.

Join in if you can or leave your comments for this very popular book.

Richard Alex Jenkins Question for the wise:
Is it best to read Dandelion Wine before this?

Two Envelopes And A Phone I would read Dandelion Wine after. As a bit of a calming effect after Something Wicked. I just think that's better than doing the sweeter work as a lead-in to the more intense, scarier book. I dunno...I just see Dandelion Wine as a nice way to relax with the same writer after the creepy carnival. Could do it the other way, though.

Thanks!
I thought it might be essential to read them in order.

Kristy Buehler Well, that was brilliant! The only thing I'd previously read by Ray Bradbury is The Illustrated Man, it's a collection of short stories. I enjoyed it very much but Something Wicked This Way Comes is on a different level. The father, Charles, was a surprising stand out character for me. I wasn't expecting him and he was fantastic. I've added Fahrenheit 451 to my TBR List. This was a 5-star read for me.

Has anyone else started?

Richard Alex Jenkins Hi, Kristy.

You're ahead of me and I'm still waiting to start in a day or two.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on Fahrenheit 451.

Is anyone else still reading or planning to?

Mel (Epic Reading) I just bought this one. Hoping to fit it in before new years. Can’t believe I haven’t read it before.

That's the way I feel.
I know Fahrenheit 451 is Ray Bradbury's most famous book, but this is equally distinguished alongside The Martian Chronicles.

J.D. VandenBerghe Hah! I read this wayyyy back in the 80's, as a teenager who had been a pre-teen obsessed with the movie adaptation. Johnathan Pryce will always be my Mr. Dark. Hooo what a movie. And the book is _delightful_.

Do enjoy <3

Ginger I loved this book! I’m so glad to see everyone is enjoying it along for the wonderful writing of Bradbury. He is one of my favs.

Enjoy! 💕❤️

Alistair Montague Personally I'd prefer to read Dandelion Wine and Something Wicked chronologically, even though they're stand-alone.
They are also set in consecutive seasons (summer and autumn), which begs for topical reading. Unfortunately I blew it this year, so I'm going to try next year around August.

Richard Alex Jenkins This book is no conventional horror story, but very focused on prose and some deep philosophy.

Although beautiful, it's certainly not for everyone.
