Charles I finally watched The Thursday Murder Club (2025) on Netflix. I wish I could reach for the Mind Bleach. How were Kingsley and Brosnan cast for their parts?

Anne Did you like the book?

Not this one. I'm woefully behind. Your GIFs triggered me.

cauldronofevil Pierce Brosnan IS the best Bond!

But you read the first book, right?

I loved the casting, even Brosnan as Ron, though he's the only one who didn't match up to the character in my mind. But I love Brosnan, so I can give that a pass.
The movie itself didn't impress me. It was like they took about 1/5 of the book, changed a few things for time constraints, and popped out an acceptable cozy mystery.
But it wasn't Thursday Murder Club. I really think these books would work much better if they were made into a television series. There are just too many side stories to explore in each book for a streamlined movie.

Not Dalton? lol

Yes. I even read the second one. They're like BritBox between two covers. 🙄

But I love Brosnan, so I can give that a pass.

You can't let go, that he used to be "The name's Bond, James Bond"? 🧐

The movie itself didn't impress me.

Me too. It was like they didn't need anyone else but Helen Mirren's Elizabeth?

message 8: by Anne (new)

Anne I can let Bronson go because I lurve Bronson. Don't make me fight you on that one, because I'll die on that hill.

But I do see where the casting was "not" Ron. Even Bronson said it was odd casting, but he wanted the part, so he kept his mouth shut. lol

I hope the next "movie" isn't a movie. There's just too much between the pages for 2 hours.

message 9: by Sherill (new)

Sherill Ellis If you'll allow my brief intrusion ... I'm with Anne. I'll die on the Bronson hill too! He was a great Bond and deserved more movies! Four was not enough! (Can you imagine the Bond movies he'd have made if he could have gotten out of "Remington Steele"?! (And he didn't die!)

message 10: by Gavin (new)

Gavin Ray Winstone is Ron. Ben and Helen are perfect. They better fix Bogdan. I was enraged

message 11: by Gavin (new)

Gavin Also, I’m very excited by the Gay E dealer and the Connie prison sponsorship kid 😆

I think Bosnan is #2 on Annie's hill. 🧐

I was LIVID! But then I read that they will bring him back in the next movie. But yeah. FIX THAT.
I was very unimpressed with the movie.

I love that even Brosnan says that in all of the interviews.

I loved Connery and Roger Moore. Honestly, I had kind of been over the Bond franchise by the time that Brosnan got to it. But I just love him as an actor and in his interviews.
He is welcome to the role of Ron in my book.

Osman really does have such a unique way of infusing these incredibly touching moments with the right amount of humor, doesn't he?

Luna Excellent review Anne. My wife just finished the first and I am reading it soon. We liked the Netflix movie quite a bit so we decided it was a series we could read together as we literally don't read anything together sadly. :)

message 27: by Anne (new)

Anne I hope you guys end up loving this series. It's my favorite. They would definitely make my Deserted Island book list.

She finished it and loved it. Said I would be surprised, I am currently mired in my October spooky reading mission, lol. :)

message 29: by Anne (new)

Anne Ok, but let me know when you're done!!! I'm so excited that your wife loved it, though!!!

Thanks Anne. I am excited that we will be reading something in common as we really don't and we really should :)

Anne Hubs and I can barely watch TV together, so don't feel bad. I say as long as you aren't trying to smother each other with a pillow in the middle of the night, you're doing well.

lmao. Isn't funny how we drift apart on certain things. Yeah tv is an issue. Cars too, like what happened to her tastes? Books for sure, like way for sure. Thankfully she is ok with my heavy metal! But lol no one has hurt each other yet :) Ps I checked your review again and the images now came through which wasn't the original case. Just awesome as usual Anne. Seems to be hit and miss with the images, but seeing what happened I'll just check on the review later to try and see them and hope they come through the second time. :)

There was some major glitch and people's reviews weren't loading for a few days - then ALLLL AT ONCE! So, who knows with the images?

Yeah, when Hubs and I started out, we had a lot more things in common with each other than we do now. Now, we have decades of a life lived in common, and an occasional shared remote. Sometimes.
But I think it would be weird if we hadn't both changed, you know? I got cooler. Not sure what happened to him, though. lol
Kidding! Kidding!

I have to agree that you do exude coolness! I kind of like to think I am in the same boat, lol. And for sure through our jobs and our lives that happened after marriage we were bound to change, it's just life, we evolve and you and I for the better :)

message 35: by Anne (new)

Anne Hubs is ok, but only one of us could come out on top. It's me. It's definitely me.

message 36: by Becky (new)

Becky Foster Agree. My only critique is not enough Bogdan.

message 37: by Anne (new)

Anne I can't get enough of him, either. *sigh*

Diane Barnes I'm in the middle of this one right now. Joyce is hands down my favorite character, I so identify with her. Great review without giving anything away.

Thanks! I was trying so hard to not give the plot away, Diane.

message 42: by Robin (new)

Robin Tuttle The Joyce and Joanna dynamic was SO FUN and sweet and hilarious. The self awareness they have about their own flaws but just plowing in ahead with them had me cackling.

message 43: by Joni (new)

Joni Fisher What? A fifth of Osman? Gotta get this book! Thanks, Anne, I didn’t know this was out.

Yeah, I love that, too! Are they really "flaws" if you own them, though?
Asking for a friend...
