Happy reading, hope you love it! 💖 I’ve got the ALC, so I’ll be reading it soon!
I was sold at “Charlie’s conscience made me emotional”. I love when trauma is layered with moral integrity and a hint of rations. Awesome review, Krystal! 🖤
I just listened to an audible narrated that same way and loved it! I hope this is the start of a new trend! Fantastic review! 🐈⬛❤️
Stellar review, Krystal. Looks like I really missed out on not getting the audio for this one. Still a read I would not have missed. Ignatius Oliver's descriptions of the air raids were fabulous.✈

Thanks, Debbie! Charlie struggled so much for a young person. I couldn't help but root for him.

Just finished and posted. I wonder if it would have been easier to listen to it, than hold the large print copy? Thank you again Krystal for an amazing review! ♥️
Am trying again, as had not realized only Goodreads links are allowed.
I was thinking about reviewing this novel myself, but the above review says it better. I dealt with the audio book thanks to the ALCs program offered by libro.fm. John Lee is always an excellent narrator, and it was like meeting an old friend to hear him narrate. The woman who narrated Molly reminded me of the diction of Princess Diana. This cued me that Molly was upper class even before the description of her home and the mention of several servants.
An interesting book that portrayed WWII from the vantage of members of several classes -- The East Enders certainly had it very hard. While the royal family deserve kudos for not abandoning London, they could look the East End in the face, they were never hustling for a bit of bread and dripping. Bread and dripping, sounds truly nasty, basically bread and bacon grease! And to think rations were so hard to get for Gran and Charlie.
I am reminded that parts of this area of London have been expensively gentrified today - think Canary Warf.
Thanks for the heads up on the audiobook. Just found it on my Spotify account. Going to start listening tonight. So excited. Great review.

I seem to be missing comments lately! So sorry!! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 💗💗
I am not at all impressed with the audiobook. I think it’s distracting. I love Baldacci and I usually love WW historical fiction. This book was just aggravating to me. Maybe I would have preferred it as a read. Who know? Not on my recommended reading list.
