message 2: by cherie ^_-★ (new)

cherie ^_-★ i just know the the modern references are gonna throw me off as well 😭 hope your next read is better babes 🤞🏻 great review as always!

message 3: by manju ♡ (new)

manju ♡ 1000% agree on the writing it is so so so subpar 😭 like i admit you don’t have to be the best writer to write good books esp if your genre is contemporary romance but… this is on another level 😭 emily henry does not deserve the abby jimenez comparisons

message 4: by évieane (new)

évieane naaaah i HATE modern references, and I just know that would have pissed me off 😭😭 hope your next read will be much better, bb 🤍

gavie (busy with life) OH NOOOOO BESTIE!!!! I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy this one😔. I haven’t read any Abby Jiminez books but this one doesn’t sound like something I would like and OMG I HATE POP REFERENCES or any reference to social media😭😭. Hope your next read makes up for this one🤍🤍

message 6: by Arushi♡ (new)

Arushi♡ OH NO! I hope your next read is better babes

message 7: by Krysta ꕤ (new)

Krysta ꕤ now I’m feeling like i shouldn’t rush to read this cause I dnf’d just for the summer 😀

message 8: by jae (new)

jae rhysand mention is insane 😭😭 who allowed that pls… i hope your next read is so much better !!

kendyl ʚ♡⃛ɞ (hiatus) LMAOOOO stop it i love your review!! your next read better be a winner!!

message 10: by anh (new)

anh noo sorry this was disappointing ☹️ i absolutely despise modern references in books—they throw me off so much. i’ve only tried 2 of abby's books and one was a dnf so my expectations are pretty low. your review just confirmed that for me! great review ml i hope your next read is way better 💖

message 11: by ivy (new)

ivy omg no i'm so sorry this was disappointing ro ☹️☹️ maybe you'll enjoy 'yours truly' or 'just for the summer' 🤞🤞 amazing review bestieee <3 i hope ur next read is much much better 💕💕

message 12: by aira (new)

aira I hope your next read is wayyyyyy better!! 🥺💕

message 13: by kale (new)

kale Yours truly and part of your world were so fucking good and i considered her writing phenomenal until her last book which kept referencing McDonald’s and Starbucks, I’ve not notice this before in her other books but not I’m second guessing myself.

lea ⊹ ࣪ ˖ (ia) arghhh i hope your next read is much better bb! 🩷

message 15: by lula ★ (new)

lula ★ that first sentence is diabolical😭 and RHYSAND MENTIONS? oh my god. hopefully your next read is better bestie😭💗

⋆˚୨ৎ˚⋆ Esra (interactive) i love how people on your profile are so interactive! i wish my profile was like that too 😢

message 17: by klein (new)

klein The publisher stated on threads that the motherland line was edited out of the final draft. Historically Abby has written immigrant characters with sensativity and respect (see Rosa, Yours Truly) so I'm going to assume this was a one off. I didn't love the mentions of TikTok personally but this was still a 5 star read for me.

message 18: by klein (new)

klein also I found no mention of Omar beinng in the military I think you're mistaken about that

message 19: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly I just finished this and 100% agree. This was not it. Which is sad because I really enjoyed her Yours Truly.

message 20: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I am literally obsessed with Abby's other books but this one was NOT it for me. I almost cried because of how much I've loved her other work ☹️

message 21: by Shakale (new)

Shakale The number of times Rhys was mentioned felt incredibly lazy.

message 22: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Bo Ahh spot on review! So weird as everyone is loving it but critically there is just so much wrong with the book

message 23: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Elena very valid reasons, i feel it too while reading it but, im abby jimenez biased. what could i do. haha.

message 24: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Thomas I fully relate to this review!

message 25: by Laura (new)

Laura Everly Super helpful review. Thats everything I don’t like about a book, all summed up. I didn’t like Just for The Summer (the only book I’ve read of hers) so I was hoping to give her another chance but I can tell she’s not the author for me.

message 26: by Rachel (new)

Rachel N Very odd

message 27: by Anna (new)

Anna Liska I just finished reading this book yesterday and it’s like you read my mind with literally everything you said. I have read all of Jimenez’s books and can honestly say this is probably my least favorite. Her first “world” is easily my favorite. They feel much more like Emily Henry’s style. I feel like she touches less upon the current trends of the world and so it feels more relatable.

I agree that the pace felt fast and the strong connection they had so quickly felt unrealistic. I kept waiting for “more” from the characters but agree the times when they were together felt rushed. The first date was where we got the most of “them.” And I remember thinking in the last couple of chapters, “wait, it’s almost the end, how is she going to wrap this up already?” Most of her books are slow burn and this one was not. And while I did enjoy the ending overall, I completely agree that it was so fast.

message 28: by madi (new)

madi omg i’ve been seeing so many bad reviews for this 😭 modern references and rhysand mentions?!?! hope your next read treats you sm better love 🤍✨ your review was amazing as always 😌

message 29: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Hmm. Maybe it’s because I met my husband and immediately fell for him that I understand the relationship in this book but I felt the love and the longing for both of these characters. I thought it was refreshing that she wrote it with real world problems and a relationship that isn’t all sunshine and roses (as most aren’t). It’s about being there when things get hard and pushing through all seasons of life with your person

message 30: by Gaby (new)

Gaby I agree with everything!!!

message 31: by Ana (new)

Ana Travis Excellent review. Abby is one of my very favorite authors, and I was sad to feel this way!

message 32: by Renee (new)

Renee Cassese This was my first Abby Jimenez book. The writing was ok but a bit disjointed.
SPOILER—
My biggest objection was the FMC talking smack about MMC’s parents and telling him how to treat them. Yeah they were horrible parents but this is a new RLS and she has no place giving her opinions.

message 33: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah The MMC was doing too much for FMC, especially with his own financial issues- that just made me anxious. I need a guy to have his shit together first lol. & In reality, if a guy flew all the way to California saying it was for a vet conference… as a way to just take me out to dinner, and turned out he wasn’t even registered for said vet conference-I’d be creeped out.

message 34: by tracy (new)

tracy i NEVER see anyone comment on her writing! I have read all of her books becuz i’m such a big contemporary romance lover i keep tryinggggg to like her but i had to dnf this one. i do.not.get.it.

message 35: by book of august (new)

book of august "it felt like we were skipping over crucial moments instead of living in them." Exactly!
