Sorry you suffered through this one Kaceey@
Yep I understand that rating !!! I hope you enjoy your next one more after such a painful time with this one 😂
Thanks Margaret - when I read your review while I was reading this I knew I was in the same boat as you. Not for me (should have DNF’d!)
Definitely skip it Jan! I think you’d feel the same as me!!! Completely unbelievable storyline with clunky writing 😬
It would likely work out better for you Carmel, but I wanted to be honest. Hope you’re loving your current reads!
Fantastic and honest review, Lindsay! I agree with all that you write. I am glad that we are on the same page with this one!
I’d be curious to hear your thoughts Jan but I have a feeling you’d feel the same as me. Hope your current reads are great!
Thank you, Lindsay. Sometimes the reviews of disappointing books are the most helpful. So little time, want to skip the right ones! On to a good one for you!
Thanks Jodi - a big disappointment for me but I’ve moved on to better! Hope you’re loving what you are reading!

Thanks Lindsay - I really am!!
Just finished and didn’t like it either. I wanted to mention though, it wasn’t translated to English. The author’s first language is French, but she wrote it in English.
Sorry it didn’t work out better for you either Jenn. Thanks for clarifying that - I was under the impression it was translated. I’ll make a correction in my review - thank you!
Yes.. spoiler but 5 years in captivity is so unrealistic and she didn’t come out looking like a rag doll for his daughter to even bat an eye. I’m about to dnf @ 32%
@ Lindsay L - that makes me feel better about my decision dnfing because I was hoping it would at least get better lol
Unfortunately the plot is believable- Jaycee Dugard, Elizabeth Smart, Elisabeth Fritzl, Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus...
I do understand that Jen. Unfortunately this particular book just wasn’t written in a believable way for me. I’m so glad it was a winner for most others though 😊
You’re entitled to your opinion. And wanted to point out that the phrases “a father” and “a daughter” were only used from “Rachel’s” point of view. It showed her observational stance towards the situation, which I regarded as a coping mechanism. She was not part of the family. And she could not humanize them too much. I don’t think it has anything to do with language barriers…
