I haven't read many of the books, but my to-read list is going to get longer...

There are two more months left in 2018! We haven't even finished October yet!

I genuinely do wish these were at the actual end of the year! Or early January! I'm always busy with NaNoWriMo stuff this time of year and don't have time to squeeze in front runners I'm interested in.

Already voted! I found some new books to add to my never ending to-be-read list 😁 Everyday it's increasing in number..

Again, this ridiculous end date November 15, 2018. Why make books able to vote on when they aren't even released until the final round starts?

I haven’t read most of the 2018 books, but enjoyed scrolling down through all the books anyway!

I wish the Goodreads Choice Awards began on Dec. 10th and winners were announced on Dec. 31st. You don't need three rounds when two will do. It doesn't seem fair to vote on 10 months' worth of new releases. You listed Stephen King's Elevation, but it just released TODAY! How can you nominate a book that people haven't read?

Wow. The nonfiction group is just.plain.awful. The rest I expect to fully disagree with but that one. Whoo boy. It's funny to see book awards that are as cheap as Grammys. Also, ditto to what folks are saying above about the process. Some of these entries, by not having been released yet, are clearly just advertisements and not a reflection of merit.

I'm more than happy to see the Catana Comics book here! I hope it goes well 💖

Does anybody know if you have to be a goodreads member to vote? Someone I know voted and after she did a message popped up inviting her to join goodreads. She is wondering if her vote doesn't count, if she's not a goodreads member.

Wouldn't it be lovely if we could filter by whether or not the books were on our shelves? Best of the Best took quite a long time and, as it turns out, I have only read a few. I don't want to vote for something I haven't even read!

Next year, could you separate middle grade books the way YA books are? realistic fiction and fantasy...

It seems a bit ludicrous to put picture books against adult fiction in the Best of the Best category. It may have made more sense to do that voting at a different time of year with each category getting a vote.

Yes. And with each category having its own showdown i.e. Best Mystery/Thriller of the last 10 years, Best Fantasy of the last 10 years, etc.

I agree with the criticisms of the timing, there are two more months to this year. I have two pre-orders on order that won't be eligible.

Also, why is the romance section totally composed of heterosexual books? There were some damn good LGBTQ romances that came out this year.

I've voiced multiple times in the past that I wish they'd be sorted into their own section. Even if we do get one in romance, there's next to no chance it'll win. It's rather unfair.

That's why they accept books "released in the U.S. between November 16, 2017, and November 15, 2018." Any books released later this calendar year will be considered in next year's choice awards.

The voting should start later, or the cut-off publishing date should be earlier - the first round of voting ends before some of the books are released - I can't vote for a book I haven't read

Yes! I was happy to see that Bingo Love was represented in Best Graphic Novels & Comics, but it could easily have been in Romance as well.

Liane Moriarty's book isn't even released until sometime in November.

I didn't see the point of "Best of Best." It was just impossible for me to pick something. Also... it'd be nice if paranormal/urban fantasy was not lumped together with regular fantasy. In 2013, paranormal fantasy received 108k votes to science-fiction's 75k. Bring the category back!

It just occurred to me that Becoming hasn't even been published yet. Doesn't it seem weird, maybe unethical, to include a book that hasn't even been published yet? Surely the voters couldn't have all had the opportunity to read it.

"young adult fantasy" is just giving me the black background with no books in sight - were none released this year? xD

Having just finished "The Omega Objection" by the FABULOUS GL Carriger, I'm even more pissed at so called Best of not including November releases and having no LBGTQIA category.

i'd appreciate this more if there was a 'good god, none of these!' or write-in options (in all rounds, not just opening round). some serious stinkers among the candidates. out of all the choices in all the categories (in all the gin joints, in all the world), i added maybe half a dozen to my 'i guess i could try to read if it's cheap or free or smacks me on the head at the library' list. who's reading all the other smegma-laced ick-lit vomitus being featured?

Part of my new year's resolution will be to continue reading more books in the YA and Graphic categories. The "Best of the Best" was strange with the mash-up of genres. Wish there was a separate category for kids graphic and one more YA. You have "Sci-Fi and Fantasy", but the rest are all clustered together under the general YA umbrella and that feels wrong...maybe add YA Mystery/Thriller, YA Realistic, separate Debut YA author (particularly that), or something that's been a trend and needs a separate category for the sake of other titles not being lost (like LGBT+).

Super glad this has been expanded over the years, but still needs some tweaking. (This is unsolicited advice coming from a public librarian^_^)

So many good books that I haven’t read yet, and my to-read list is getting longer and longer, I really hope that soon I will read most of them.
