Interestingly, I got more out of it when I read it in my 30s than I did when I read it at 19 or 20. The beats in general are hit and miss for me, but I liked the matter of fact style and related more to the aimlessness.
I think the problem for me was that Kerouac gave me nothing to like about any of the characters. I just couldn't care what happened to them, which, as it turned out, was nothing much, over and over again.
