Why did he deserve it? Adrian was a loyal Rose both as a friend and a boyfriend. He supported her decisions even when he didn't understand them (like when she decided to go to Russia and asked him to lend her money, which she never paid back, btw). If anyone deserved anything, it was that brutal honesty Adrian gave Rose when she dumped him.

She kind of used him, she cared about him and loved him, but still used him. She belonged with Dimitri. I like her, but I feel, that the way she treated Adrian- she didn't deserve him.
If Adrian knew he had no chance he wouldn't have date Rose. He thought she would eventually get over Dimitri and love him instead. Adrian by no means "deserved" to have Rose cheat on him. He was extremely loyal to her both as a friend and a boyfriend. Rose was lucky because she by no means deserved that unconditional loyalty Adrian gave her.
