Ack. I just hit the wrong button! What does voting "up" or "down" mean, anyway? Richard, I am reading your comment just after finishing "Dombey and Son," and I love what you say about Dickens. (though I did not love the book) Great post!
I agree that "challenging" can be a very good thing. I suppose you could say that's one of the things I look for when I cast about for something new to read: a book that will challenge my current sense of the world.
