Carolina Morales Really! And Jane Eyre has a strong struggle to deal within herself - as she says in the first chapter, the consequences of being locked into the Red Room would affect her nerves therefore.

Teresa I'd never thought about it: the insanity of Rochester's wife, locked up in a room; and the insanity Jane faced in the red room - she learnt to become strong and independent to resist insanity.
