Interesting question, but if Victor didn't exist and Walton had such things in his imagination, why would he write it down as an other man's words? Why would he even write it down? I mean if I had a mental breakdown like this, probably I couldn't even talk about it (as Victor had problems talking about it), yet Walton writes everything so accurate, so I would assume, that he was probably mentally healthy and really had met Victor.
