You HAVE to read it :D It really is amazing! The first couple of chapters might be boring at times because the characters and setting has to be introduced and that takes time but overall, everyone who has read the books so far has loved them so keep reading! :D
The first Mortal Instrument book is the hardest to read. Getting to know the world Clare created is a bit confusing, but once you know then you will love it(I hope you do at least).
My first time reading City of Bones I stopped reading like you did, but ended up reading it since I had nothing else. The book really picks up when Jace comes into the picture. And you should be hooked after about 5 or so chapters.
This book is great for guys since it has action and not a lot of "lovey-dovey" stuff going on.
