Given everything that Katniss went through, I'm not sure she is capable of the epic love we often see in movies. I'm not sure she could be overwhelmed. I think she needs constant, enduring patience and devotion, which is pretty much Peeta. She's just been hurt too much to trust and let herself go easily, I think.
Umm....i think if she ended with Gale it would feel as if its just the normal pattern of life without taking any risk as she has known for so long-it would be like she has taken the safe choice
I also think she had no idea who she should be with until Gale's invention killed her sister which kind of summed up the choices, so she actually kind od ended up with Peeta but later on she realises he's the one, he's her dandeloine
I liked Gale a lot better than Peeta. Peeta may have liked Katniss but Katniss and Gale had a connection that Peeta and Katniss will never have...... They just needed eachother for survival.
I can see why the author choose Peeta. If she went for Gale it would've been slated by the critics. There is a reason why The Hunger Games (unlike many female lead YA books) is critically acclaimed - because the love interest isn't the Alpha Male types while the woman is -that's a huge feminist statement.
No...I think there is more...I think Katniss should have ended up with Gale, if she had never met Peeta. Because it was the closest thing she hat to romance: friendship.
But, Peeta was love. Gale was friendship. Support. Power. Happyness. Yes, Gale was all of that. But Peeta was warmt, love.
I think it's a good thing that Katniss ended up with Peeta.
The only thing I dislkie the most, is that Gale leave. He should have stayed. He should have found someone else, but remain in the district 12. Being, maybe, Uncle Gale.
The last thing, of Katniss hunting alone, is what broke my heart.
I think Gale blamed himself for prim's death which is why he left

I can understand that but I always felt like she just settled. She never got to FALL. And if she had maybe she could have let go of all the pain and realized that life was all about love not consistency, IMHO

I just don't see it that way. I feel like the entire series needed stronger male leads and neither Peeta or Gale was it.
