You purposely missed my point by amount a mile but sure, OK. I was using the Ancient Romans as an example. I just find it funny that in that regard, things have regressed.
To clear things up, I meant people's reaction to Albus Dumbledore being gay. Even in the Goodreads forum threads you see a couple of comments that say that they're against homosexuality.
When the information came out, there were a few organisations in America that were so against it. Trying to remember what the others were called but the only one that I can recall on the top of my head is Mission America:

Uhm, I don't think homosexuality is something in which to believe, it's not a religion, it's just something you are or you are not and other people shouldn't absolutely judge you differently because of that.
But probably I'm going OT and this is not the place to discuss this...
