I'm not so sure about the "uplifting" endings. The movie "Dead Poets Society" didn't end so well, however, it was received favorably by major audiences and remains a classic.
Very true - I love that movie. I guess I was thinking about a Nicholas Sparks book -> movie where the ending was changed. I often like sad endings better, they tend to make you think more.
