Astrid Yrigollen If you like the account of David, you might like Jonah's account of when Jehovah YHWH commisioned him to preach to the Ninivites and what Jonah did when he finally got there. I actually laughed out loud when Jonah set up camp to watch the city be destroyed. Or what God did to the Philistines when they stole the Ark of the Covenant. That story made me realize that yes God does have a sense of humor.

Kent Forrest "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."
-- 1 Timothy: 9 - 2:11 (OK - JUST KIDDING!) A reminder that the Bible was written by a variety of people with different flaws, prejudices, and purposes. Personally I view it as ONE of many compilations of books and verses by ancient people trying to understand the world around them with limited knowledge and no comprehension of science. What is really strange is that with all the education available to modern mankind there are people who want to take it "literally" - well at least the bits and pieces of it they happen to read and agreed to.

Astrid Yrigollen Actually Kent there are things in the bible that were written before modern scientists even knew about them(earth being round and quarantine procedures for infectious diseases for example). Also the bible was written by over 40 different people over a span of hundreds of years(aprox 1600 years) but the whole thing is in harmony with itself and the main theme ( One Universal Sovereign and his kingdom) has not changed. People who actually study the bible and not just things our of context appreciate and acknowledge the divine wisdom found there in such as the late Albert Einstein

Kent Forrest Astrid wrote: "Actually Kent there are things in the bible that were written before modern scientists even knew about them(earth being round and quarantine procedures for infectious diseases for example). Also th..." People believe what they want to believe and stretch their imagination to match ancient texts accordingly. Your 'assumption' there is "one universal sovereign' is only that - not proof. It is not worth debating your assumptions as we approach the bible from different points of view - my science vs. your faith. PS - Einstein was not a biblical scholar.

Astrid Yrigollen I'm sorry I didn't mean you to take a defensive posture or offend you, just as I am sure you did not mean to offend by making light of a scripture you assume to understand in a thread that is clearly meant for people who do believe in God and the bible as his divine word( as opposed to just a collection of “stories” by random men). The fact that Einstein was not a theologian is exactly why I brought him up. He was and still is considered a genius in the scientific community and knew that things cannot be created by 'chance' but by design. But you are right, no need to carry this further, since this is bigger than the both of us. Have a nice day.

Reader007 Proverbs is very good because it gives instructions for most things in life, how to handle ourselves and how to respond in various situations.
