Well said Philip. I must reread GE. It's been so long that I've forgotten some of the characters. And I don't want to forget.
I just read it and I agree, only the original will do. I didn't care for Estella either but you do come to understand her if only a bit in the beginning and then later on so much more is explained. Your heart goes out to her growing up in the mausoleum with the crazed Miss Haversham. Yikes, I can't imagine any sane human being giving that child to be adopted to a crazy woman!
